App Installs: A Startup's Journey

Linguado is a free mobile app that allows you to instantly link with native speakers of the language you desire, by proximity, or worldwide.

Results: I grew the user base of this app from a small group of friends of the founder to a robust global community of 50,000 users that continues to grow every day organically.

Key metrics: Weekly average user growth (WAU), cost per 4-week retained user (CAC).

Traffic sources: Facebook App-install campaigns, Google Universal App Campaigns.

Technology used: Facebook SDK, Facebook Analytics, Google Firebase.

Lessons learned: Promoting an app brings a set of unique challenges as compared to other campaigns. Working directly with developers was a great opportunity to dive deep into the technology involved. Apps are a marketer’s dream because you can measure everything about user behavior patterns.
